Potassium Iodide 200 mcg — Overview of the Thyroid Medication

What is Potassium Iodide 200 mcg?

Potassium Iodide 200 mcg is a medicinal product containing 200 mcg of iodine in the form of potassium iodide. It is used for the prevention of iodine deficiency, treatment of goiter, and protection of the thyroid gland. The product replenishes iodine deficiency in the body and normalizes the production of thyroid hormones.

In the Tibetan Formula line, the equivalent is Yodium Kaliyu 200 mcg — thyroid 120 tabs — a natural phytopreparation based on organic iodine for daily thyroid support.

Tibetan Formula products are dietary supplements, not medicinal products, and are not intended for diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of diseases.

Mechanism of Action

Iodine is an essential trace element for the synthesis of thyroid hormones — thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). These hormones regulate metabolism, cardiovascular system function, nervous system, and reproductive function. In case of iodine deficiency, the thyroid gland enlarges (goiter) in an attempt to compensate for the deficiency.

Potassium Iodide 200 mcg provides the body with the necessary amount of iodine for normal thyroid function and hormone synthesis.

Indications for Use

The product is prescribed for:

  • prevention and treatment of endemic goiter
  • iodine deficiency conditions in children, adolescents, pregnant and breastfeeding women
  • hypothyroidism caused by iodine deficiency
  • recovery after thyroid surgery
  • protection of the thyroid gland during radiation exposure

Dosage

Standard preventive dosage:

  • Adults and adolescents over 12 years: 100–200 mcg per day
  • Pregnant and breastfeeding women: 200–300 mcg per day
  • Children under 12 years: 50–100 mcg per day

The product should be taken after meals with a sufficient amount of liquid. The duration of the course is determined by the doctor.
